Solo Savings River Cruises
No or Lower Single Supplement

River Cruiser Baroness ©UniworldFor the past few years river cruise operators have been stepping up with offers to waive or reduce single supplement fees on selected sailings along the famous rivers of Europe. Lately, there has been a growing number of single-friendly deals for cruising on Asian rivers as well. And it looks as if 2017 will be no exception, as singles have numerous options to enjoy the comfort of a private cabin while sightseeing via the great rivers of the world. Solo savings apply to many different river routes, including the Danube, Douro, Main, Mekong, Po, Rhine, Rhône, Moselle, Saône, Seine, and the Yangtze. The offers are always capacity controlled and change frequently. For the latest dates and itineraries, check out the following river cruise companies:

Annual Round-up of Single Occupancy Staterooms

© Cunard's Queen Mary 2, refurbished 2016The good news for single travelers continues to be all about the increasing availability of single-occupancy staterooms on board a never-ending lineup of cruise ships either being built or about-to-be built, or on older ships undergoing extensive refurbishments. If you are among the many who don't mind sailing solo but can't stand sharing a cabin with a stranger, things are definitely looking up for your next cruise vacation.

The trend toward adding single-occupancy staterooms to new ships began in 2010 with the arrival of Norwegian Epic and its 128 "studios" and associated lounges specifically designed for the comfort of solo guests. That trend is now becoming standard practice with several major cruise lines adding single-occupancy cabins to new ship designs as well as to refurbishments of older vessels. So how do things stand thus far in 2016:

Luxury Yachting All Over the World
No Single Supplement

The only French-flagged cruise line and world-leader in polar expeditions, PONANT Cultural Cruises and Expeditions, was founded in 1988 by Jean-Emmanuel Sauvée and a dozen Merchant Navy officers. With a fleet of small luxury ships, the company boasts a new high-end style that combines exceptional itineraries with five-star amenities. In October 2015, PONANT was acquired by Artemis Holding Company of the Pinault family, a move expected to strengthen the brand's competitive advantage globally. PONANT has just annouced it's 2016/2017 line-up of cruises, including two very special Antarctic voyages: Beyond the Polar Circle and Antarctica to Africa – (Wow! Wouldn't that be a trip to remember.)

Of particular interest to solo travelers, however, is a short list of selected cruises on offer without single supplement add-ons. Departures range from 4 to 14 days scheduled occasionally between April 2016 and October 2017. Itineraries include England to Portugal, Barcelona to Nice, Hawaii and French Polynesia, Indonesia to Australia, Bali to Hong Kong. Check it out here: PONANT
